"I have no private purpose to accomplish, no party objectives to build up, no enemies to punish - nothing to serve but my country."
- President Zachary Taylor

WHO WE ARE
It started with a passion.
The Presidents of the United States have been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I carried books about them wherever I went as a little kid - at supermarkets, playgrounds and on vacations. As I got older, I started travelling around the country to visit historic sites so I could walk in the same halls as our leaders once did.
Through all my travels, I realized that those sites are so crucial to historical education. They allow people to personally interact with history in a way like no other.
So when I learned that one of our Presidents, Zachary Taylor, had no such site, I knew that something had to be done about it.

ZACHARY TAYLOR
From the Mexican desert in the summer of 1846, General Zachary Taylor penned these lines to his brother about the possibility of running for President:
"Such an idea never entered my head, nor is it likely to enter the head of any sane person."
Despite his recent victories at the Battles of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma in the Mexican-American War, this lifelong soldier had never fathomed the chance that he would aspire to the highest office in the land. Much less did he harbor political ambitions - in fact, he had never even voted in an election. And yet three years later, Zachary Taylor found himself in the White House.
